OK, this has been bugging me, and I need to ask: what are China's commonly accepted covid-19 origin stories? Do they think that American agents in the WIV released it on purpose? Or that we were were intentionally doing dangerous research on foreign soil so that someone else would bear the brunt of any mistakes?
As I understand it, here in the USA we've mostly settled on it being either from an accidental leak from the WIV, or from an exotic meat market. For a while there was speculation about cave explorers, but I haven't heard that in years. And after China's response was so self-damaging, I haven't heard suggestions that the CCP intentionally released it.
When it first appeared, the story was that it was an accidental leak from seafood market. But round about...2021 ish? I have no idea who even started it. But the story that it was actually specifically engineered in an American lab and used as a biological weapon against China. It's not even like, oh, they're doing experimentation. But like, they're intentionally weakening the Chinese people in an act of war. Which um, is so ridiculous that I am honestly shocked anyone believes it at all.
But when some experts and professors started speaking out like, "Wow, that is a really crazy conspiracy and the government needs to do something to educate people that that's an insane thing to believe." They got censored off the internet. And soon enough, there were a lot of accounts under every covid news story blaming everything on America, that it seemed pretty clear to me the government was pushing this narrative hard.
Not a lot of people I actually know in real life actually believes this conspiracy theory. But you see a lot of people who talk about it like it's proven fact on the internet, and I don't know if they're real people who actually believe it, or bots made to spread that propaganda.
For my part, I don't even understand why the CCP is pushing this propaganda to begin with, because, like...isn't it an embarrassment to say with such vehemence and certainty that Covid is a intentional, deliberate biological attack against your country, and then just...do nothing about it? Just be like, "Well, yeah, they are very bad people and we will shake our finger at them." Like, that's your reaction to a foreign power explicitly attacking your citizens? Doesn't that make you look weak? But then again, I don't get a lot of CCP propaganda sometimes.
I just looked it up, and apparently China *does* buy a lot of American seafood, and they process and re-export a lot of it to America. And there's been a mini trade war going on since the Trump administration, with tariffs on both sides. I guess I assumed that all of that got resolved, but nope, no such luck.

Wow. And yet they're still buying our seafood...
