I'm not quite sure. My hometown doesn't have a Sam's Club. But in general, I think all proper supermarkets are pretty "upscale" in China, at least from my rural point of view haha. Like, people who are just shopping normally go to farmer's markets, which are a much more common and developed thing in China. Pretty much only young people with too much money and not enough skills at haggling to go proper grocery stores.
Because I only go shopping with my grandma, I've literally never been inside a Chinese supermarket in my life. So I have no idea if a Sam's Club is considered particularly more fancy than, like, Costco or something.
