Why do people sell hair?

Well, it makes money. I know it doesn’t sound like a whole lot, 80-100 bucks, but that’s still free money, when you’re not really gonna be using all the hair you cut, right? I used to have ass-length hair, and when I got it cropped to chin-length in America, I remember thinking that that’d be worth like 2 lunches if I’d sold it in China. And in rural China, 80-100 RMB has quite a lot of purchasing power. A bowl of lamb noodles near my grandma’s house is only 4 RMB, and you get unlimited noodle refills. If you’re careful about how you pick food out at the farmer’s market, you could live on 100 RMB’s worth of groceries for a whole month.

The question is why they shave the hair right close to the scalp, instead of making some effort to make it look halfway decent. I don’t really have an answer for that, except that if you want a pretty hairstyle, you don’t sell your hair. You go to a hairdressers (and I’m pretty sure they still sell the hair they cut off there, you just don’t get the money). People selling their hair directly are almost all simply doing it for the money, and the hair seller gets the most profits by getting maximum length out of your hair, so they cut it as close to the root as they can get away with.

No, it was discovered in her heart. Apparently, the family's story is that she must've swallowed a needle, and then it somehow wormed its way to her heart. I have no idea if this is something that can actually happen, but it's what the post said.
