Under the trending topic #Five days of holiday for 1st of May, people are complaining that if you discount the extra weekends they’re being forced to work, they’re actually only getting one day off.
I didn't even know you could get bloated from eating vegetables, but a quick search revealed it's apparently quite common everywhere.
The bride price pieces are reliably some of the wackiest stuff on this blog. Totally unbelievable that you have this entire culture built up around these norms that incentivize all this bad behavior — and then add on modern legal contortions on top of it and you get this.
It's actually anything that's very fibrous--if you're not used to eating that much fiber, it'll cause a lot of gas and bloating.
The whole bride price thing honestly goes really deep down into Chinese people's unique cultural view of money. I might write about it sometimes, if people are interested.
I'd love to see a more detailed explainer of money in Chinese culture. Anecdotally it does seem like there is a special role for money in China (e.g. I can't think of any other culture where giving people cash is the preferred gifting style).

Actually, I can't figure out a way to link to anything that isn't a video on weibo. I'm gonna have to work this out. There's a button I can click to repost it to my personal wechat, but not one that just gives me a direct link. Surely, there's a way to get to the link without having to share all of this random bullshit to my entire family first...
