As Chinese New Year is coming up, people are having to spend a lot of money preparing for it, and it’s caused a wave of workers holding protests in many cities throughout China, demanding delayed wages.
I'm not sure which one they went with, but there's a couple of standard charges people are arrested for when they expose corrupt officials. "Disturbing the public peace" (which is a lighter charge that you'll only be in jail for 2 weeks for, but it does leave a criminal record) or "attempting to subvert the government" (which is a much more serious charge that you could end up in prison on a life sentence for) or just "spreading rumours", which is kind of like libel or slander, except it's a criminal case not a civil case. That's usually just a fine, but it could be an exorbitant fine.
