A girl is getting bullied at school—the boy sitting behind her is stabbing her with his pencil, breaking off the lead inside her skin, requiring a doctor to pull it out again. Her mother calls the police, and the school takes this issue very seriously and gives her their maximum support—requiring the boy to be suspended for three days after apologising to the girl.
Woman caught on camera at a train station beating her 3-4 year old daughter. She explains when confronted that the reason she’s beating her is because her daughter had called the police and reported her for child abuse, and she’d had to spend a whole night at the police station. As she beats the girl, she is threatening, “I’ll beat you more when we get home…why would you even say that to the cops…piss me off and I’ll jump off a building with you.” The girl is just sitting by, silent, covered in bruises. This blogger is trying to figure out where this video was taken to notify the police.
Someone seeks advice—she’s 27 years old. After high school, she gave up the opportunity to go to a top uni in China and went to a military school instead because she thought it was “cool”. Because there are only so many openings for women when she graduated, she was assigned to a city in Dongbei, where she doesn’t like the climate, culture, accent, food, or anything. She wants to return to the south, but she can’t just go anywhere she wants to when she’s in the military. Although she could theoretically leave, only so many people are allowed to do it per year, and you need connections and money if you want to be one of them. As she’s getting older, everyone’s persuading her that she should just settle down and marry in Dongbei, but she doesn’t want to marry too far from her parents as a single child, and her parents had already bought her houses in Jiangsu. Finally, this year, a chance comes up where she might be able to return home (for a heavy price), but now she’s hesitant because she cares about her career too, and moving home will mean completely starting over again. If she was a man, she wouldn’t hesitate and choose her career in a heartbeat, but as a woman nearing 30, she’s also worried about marriage. There’s a big difference for women dating at 29 and dating at 31. Most of the time, despite having a successful career, your dating options are going to be much worse at 29 than when you’re freshly graduated at 22. Not marrying is not an option for her, because she’s from a happy family. She’s asking for advice on what she should do.
An entertainment blogger is very proud that she learned how to sew by hand, posts video of her sewing a pillow. Everyone is very impressed. I am also very impressed.
A relationship advice blogger gets messages from a fan telling his story of gambling addiction. He grew up in a single-parent household, with a younger sister who is much better than him at studying. But he’s pretty good looking, so when he was in high school, he often hung out with older boys and got to know their “well-off” friends, and one of them—a successful older woman—became his sugar mommy. She sent him 2000RMB for their first date alone, but when she asked to sleep with him the next day, she found out he was underaged and promptly abandoned him. But with her money, he got into pay-to-win phone games, and began lying to his family to get money to keep paying for his games, usually by making up tutoring classes that don’t exist. After his high school exams, before his grades come out, he lied and said he wants to go on vacation in Chengdu and hired some thugs to pretend to be a classmate’s parents to vouch for the trip. His mom believed him, gave him 15,000RMB and sent him off, and he spent an entire month in an internet cafe gaming day and night. It was supposed to be a two-month vacation, and he thought he would have enough money, but actually, he ran out after just 3 weeks. Not knowing what to do, he took out high-interest loans on the internet and got another 10,000.
He loans out money from all the platforms he can throughout college to support his habit, and eventually the debt rolls bigger and bigger, and the only way he can think of to pay it off is to use gambling websites, playing Texas Hold ‘Em, and buying lottery tickets. At this point, everyone around him thought he was rich, and to uphold his image, he continues to gamble to keep up with his spending. Periodically, he would confess to his gambling to his mom to get her to pay off his debts when it rolls too big, until eventually, after some 250,000 paid in support to him, she gets sick and tired and completely cuts him off.
He can’t believe how cold-hearted and cruel his mother is. She even blocked him on her phone. He tried working to pay off his debts, but couldn’t stand it after his first day on the job. He can’t find his dad, neither his sister nor his mom will talk to him. He is asking this blogger what he should do.
People make fun of a video of someone’s toddler only eating the very tippy-tops of strawberries. They recommend a healthy dose of beatings.
Chinese askreddit question, “What would happen to women’s status in society as more and more men stop getting married?” Top reply responds that, “If most men choose to not get married, then women will get eliminated from most industries, to the point where they will no longer be able to work for a living at all. You can see this in Japan. The prostitution industry will explode, and that will push marriage rates down even further. Because capitalists can’t make money off of women, they can only encourage men to spend more. That’ll cause women’s status in society to fall to a new low. People might say that western men are higher quality—don’t make me laugh. Just go look up what American domestic violence rates are.”
Chinese askreddit question, “Why can’t high-quality left over women pair with high-qualify left over men?” The top reply is, “I’ve heard of a joke once that a female passenger gets into a taxi and talks to the driver, ‘I make 500K a year, is it too much to ask for a man who makes 700K?’
‘Not at all,’ the driver replies.
‘My parents both have 401Ks, is it too much to ask for a man whose parents both have 401Ks?’
‘Not at all.’
‘I’m 35, is it too much to ask for a man no older than 40?’
‘Not at all.’
‘Well, if you’re a man who’s 40, with parents with 401Ks, who makes 700K a year, what kind of woman would you look for?’
‘An 18-year-old.’”
A blogger shows his chats with a fan who is an environmental scientist in America, talking about how America had a lot of problems with pollution and environmental contamination even before the Ohio train incident, they just put a better lid on it than China. You can’t even find most of this stuff by googling for it. For example, when they needed to build massive amounts of nuclear weapons for the cold war, they established a factory town right next to the plutonium mines, the Hanford Site. Because it paid well and the government reassured people it was safe, a lot of people signed up to work there. When they realised something was wrong, to keep making that high salary, workers persuaded themselves that a little bit of radiation didn’t hurt, and even protected the factory from investigative reporters. Of course, all of the workers and the whole town had more radiation than safe. Then, the cold war ended and the factory shut down, and the workers are getting old and starting to develop health problems, but when they sued for damages, they were offered so little money, that they were better off just continuing to work at this factory. Even to this day, the case is still ongoing—in another ten years, they’ll all be dead though, and their children can take what little they can get in damages and leave.
He talks about the Love Canal chemical spill, how a chemical factory tried to reduce costs by burying its chemical waste on-site, and it was later turned into a primary school. And after students began developing strange conditions that they discovered all the barrels of chemical waste.
He talks about the Flint water problem, and how having high heavy metal content in the water is a pretty common problem in poor communities in the rust belt.
He talks about how 60-70% of American piping is still lead pipes and for the past 40 years, Americans have been ingesting unsafe amounts of lead, and a lot of high crime rates can be blamed on lead poisoning.
He talks about cross-border pollution, how many factories on the border in America will pump their waste into Mexico, and how America will often use up all the water in a river before it even reaches Mexico, and this has already destroyed an important river delta in the Mexican Bay area
Fascinating stuff. Thanks for sharing.
"You can’t even find most of this stuff by googling for it." Lol, Maybe he's just not familiar with the right words to google.
One of the problems with saying things like "they just put a better lid on it than China" is that not all pollution/ecological disaster is going to be known by the government. Which government is better at turning a blind eye, the US or China?
