“A girl in Hangzhou made a Tiktok post accusing her fitness coach, saying that she was a beginner, but the coach was telling her to do 20 squats with 30kg weight every day, causing damage to her knee, hip, and various other joints. She wants to defend her rights and demand payment from the gym now.
And then her coach posted a response, saying that this girl did cross country running and has been training in that for a long time. One time, she even did a 50+km run before coming to the gym. She trained with the gym owner for a while before deciding that she wasn’t getting enough of a challenge and he wasn’t teaching her anything, before demanding to move onto her current coach for tougher training.
And then someone dug up her personal social media account, where she does cross country running and adds to her daily exercise as the screenshot shows.
I’ve read the story on both sides and I feel like she already had injuries from long term running and her body just couldn’t take it anymore when she suddenly added a whole bunch of strength training, and she was just looking for a place to get a pay out.”
Comments say, “Granted, a lot of personal coaches are stupid…but there’s no way they told her to do 200 squats a day with 30kg weights.”
“Annoying. Hope she gets run over by a truck.”
“She’s definitely gonna get paid.”
“According to BBC’s report on the 29th of November, the Premier League’s Brighton Club has apologised for a controversial picture posted on their social media account. In the picture, Japanese soccer player Kaoru Mitoma held up a card with the portrait of WWII-era Japanese officer Hiroo Onoda.
The Brighton Club’s Youth League’s X account posted a congratulatory post on the 27th of November, claiming that their U12 team won the Premier League educational program and are going to go to Belgium to attend the “Christmas Ceasefire Cup”, and attached a photo of their player with Kaoru Mitoma, both holding a card of Hiroo Onoda in military uniform.
Hiroo Onoda is the last soldier to officially surrender in Japan in WWII. He only surrendered in 1974, nearly 30 years after Japan’s official surrender. BBC mentioned that Hiroo Onoda killed 30 civilians in the Philippines, but the Filipino government at the time still pardoned him. Hiroo Onoda was even celebrated after returning to Japan.
Kaoru Mitoma is a Japanese soccer player working for the Brighton Club. As soon as the picture of him holding up Hiroo Onoda’s photo was posted, it quickly drew debate. On Chinese social media, many soccer fans expressed their anger and disappointment. Brighton Club Youth League announced on X that, “Regarding our recent post about attending the “Christmas Ceasefire Cup”, we apologise sincerely for any offense we’ve caused to China. We treasure Chinese soccer fans and have no intention to offend anyone.”
According to BBC, the Premier League’s Christmas Ceasefire Cup originates from WWI, around the Christmas of 1914, soldiers on the British/German lines held a spontaneous ceasefire and had a soccer match. The Premier League claims that this competition is “an opportunity for Youth League U12 players to compete on the same level as the best clubs in Europe and helps them understand a historical event that is a part of today’s world.” The Brighton Club claims that this photo is a “mistake” and the Club and the Premier League knew nothing about it.
Korea’s Chosun Iibo claimed on the 29th of November that the Brighton Club did not apologise to Korean soccer fans. The report claims that the Imperial Japanese military did not just violate China. They also colonised and ruled over the Korean peninsula and oppressed the Korean people for decades. Filipino netizens also commented, “Shouldn’t the Brighton Club apologise to the Philippines first?””
Comments say, “And it was posted at 19:37. They knew what they were doing.”
“It was on purpose. It’s unforgivable.”
“Suspend him from all games. Stop his pay. Ban him from practice.”
#69-year-old man helps coworker evacuate from building in Hong Kong Fire before dying himself. “According to the Hong Kong police’s description of the events of the fire, the worst fire in recent Hong Kong history started from a low level net fence in one of the buildings, which ignited the foamed plastic and quickly spread. Under the high heat, both the bamboo scaffold and the net fence ignited. The fire started at 2:51PM on the 26th of November and quickly spread to seven of the eight buildings in Hongfu Gardens. The Hong Kong Special Zone Government Fire Station explained on the 28th that they finished putting out the fire and search and rescue at 10:18AM on that day. As of the 30th of November, 4PM, 146 people have died in this fire.
After this fire, affected residents were quickly resettled, and all parts of society extended a helping hand.
According to the needs listed by the Hong Kong Special Zone government, Guangdong quickly gathered rescue equipment, medical resources, and consumables, and handed it over to Japan on the evening of the 27th and the morning of the 28th. Many kindhearted Shenzhen residents voluntarily travelled to Hong Kong on the 27th to give warm blankets and other resources. Many mainland companies and institutions donated resources or funds, reaching hundreds of millions of Hong Kong dollars between dozens of companies and funds. According to the Hong Kong government’s information on the afternoon of the 29th, the donated funds and government funds has reached 1.1 billion Hong Kong dollars.
The Hong Kong government held a press conference on the afternoon of the 30th addressing the Hongfu Gardens fire. The police is continuing to investigate the casualty numbers and have successfully contacted 159 citizens on the missing persons list and confirmed their safety. Since the 29th, over 100 professionals in the Housing Department have been assigned to finish initial inspections into six buildings and over 1500 units.
In order to express their grief for the victims of the Taipo Hongfu Gardens Fire, from the 29th of November to the 1st of December, all government buildings will lower their flags to half staff.
According to Hong Kong media, public information from a Hong Kong apartment management company and a middle school shows that the victims of the fire includes a middle school student and a 84-year-old senior citizen, a night shift security guard in one of the buildings.
The victims weren’t just the residents in the buildings. The Wen Wei Po organised some of the construction crew casualties according to the Hong Kong Construction Guild’s information, including a 71-year-old Mr. Lai, who was a plumber, and was hit by a falling object while helping to put out the fire on the ground level. 69-year-old Mr. Chen, who was a 三沙判头 [no idea what this means], who attempted to put out the fire with his coworker, and allowed other coworkers to evacuate first when they failed. And 65-year-old Mr. Mo and 46-year-old Ms. Liu were working on the outer wall and when they failed to put out the fire, they climbed back in the building to help people evacuate and was eventually trapped by the fire.
The Indonesian Embassy and Filipino Embassy have confirmed that 7 Indonesian citizens and 1 Filipino citizen working in domestic help at Hongfu Gardens have deceased too.
3PM on the 29th of November, Lin Xiayao at the International Domestic Help Development Committee told Pengpai News reporter that most of the residents in the Hongfu Gardens are old people. Most of them hire foreign domestic help. A lot of these helpers are missing or dead as a result of the fire.
Right now, the hardest part of rescuing foreigners is concentrated on illegal workers. Lin Xiaoyao mentioned that most foreign workers come from the Philippines and Indonesia, and are generally registered with the Embassy when they enter and leave the country, so it’s relatively convenient to contact them. But some illegal immigrants don’t have work visas or registration records. Once their personal ID has been burnt to ash in the fire and they can’t be contacted, they must rely on middle man companies to search for them.
On the 29th of November, before leaving Guangfu Plaza, Jiashao came to the Subway at the exit of the Tai Po ruins subway station. His uncle used to bring him here and they’d each get a sandwich. His uncle always orders his with honey mustard and olive oil and likes it with extra peppers. He’d tell Jiashao, “This sandwich is no good without peppers.”
Today, Jiashao ordered two identical sandwiches. One of them was placed on his knee and never opened.”
Comments say, “Help me. That last part made me cry. RIP to the deceased. Hope the living stay strong. Someone needs to be held responsible to comfort the spirits.”
“Hong Kong looks fancy but it’s even more involuted.”
“This is so upsetting T_T”
“They need to learn from us when it comes to infrastructure. Times are changing. We can avoid what should’ve never happened.”
“I have a coworker who is a top tier nepo baby. One time, I went to his house to hang out and was chatting with his mom when I found out that she’s illterate. Her husband has to hold her hand and sign her name, even.
I just felt so, so sad in that moment. She lives in a big, fancy house, sits in a fancy car, has tons of money.
She’s super kind and gentle. She’s mentally all there. She’s just never went to school.
But her kids (both her children are international students at famous schools), her husband, every single person around her never taught her to read through all these years. Nobody wanted to pay a little bit of money to hire a teacher to teach her how to read.
She can’t use WeChat. You have to send a voice message if you want to contact her, because she can’t read texts. She can’t call anyone, because she doesn’t recognise numbers and can’t read the names in the contact list. She can’t shop online. She can’t pay with WeChat. She can’t call a cab for herself. She can’t use a map. She can’t understand any of the documents that her husband has had her sign.
She’s never even learned how to write her name to this day.
And her husband has been openly dating other women and producing bastards all these years. The reason they haven’t divorced is super sad too; her husband thinks she brings him good luck and is worried a divorce would affect his fengshui.”
Comments say, “That’s ridiculous. Doesn’t she have any desire to learn to read?”
“If my grandma was alive today, she’d be 110-years-old. She’s also illiterate. When she passed away, we didn’t have smartphones yet, but she still understood paper money and could write her own name. She can buy stuff and calculate prices on her own.”
“How old is she? My grandma can’t read either.”
