“What the fuck. The world is crazy.”
[The blogger posts a series of screenshots of posts and photos documenting a case of rape.]
It starts with, “Hi, I’m the person whose room pin number was leaked to another guest by her hotel and ended up getting raped. After this happened, my emotions have been getting really weird, and I’m getting close to a break down. I can’t eat or sleep.
The police don’t care. Maybe it’s because I’m from out of state. They won’t tell me what’s happening. I’ve called a lot of times and they just try to brush me off.
I want to get the apology and recompense I deserve. I’m mentally ill now, and it’s cost thousands just to get that treated. I’ve lost 3-4kg of weight. I’ve went to Sichuan multiple times with my mom and wasted a ton of time and energy. Sometimes, I want to give up, since nobody can help me.
But I posted to Xiao Hong Shu yesterday and everybody seems to really care. I’m excited! I feel like there’s a thread of hope here!”
Followed by a screenshot of her Xiao Hong Shu post. “Got raped at the hotel I stayed at, and the hotel never responded or apologised.
What happened: On the 1st of June, I went on a business trip and checked in at the Victory Hotel in Mount Emei. The guy who did it was the client I was supposed to meet. Me and my two work partners ate dinner with him, had some wine, and the client suggested we go to a KTV and have a couple more rounds. When everything was wrapped up, he got us three hotel rooms at the Victory Hotel in Mount Emei. We all went upstairs and went to our respective rooms. Then he went to the front desk and asked for my room PIN, with the reason that, “My friend’s drunk and I want to take care of her.” And the front desk just gave it to him, without calling and asking me about it at all.
When he came into my room, he pulled out my room card. And I was sleeping pretty deeply because I was drunk. I could feel someone touching me, and I woke up right away, and I saw a guy standing in front of me right away (I was sleeping on the side of the bed close to the door). My pants were pulled down to my knees, and he was shoving his fingers inside me. I immediately started screaming and kicking him, and he shoved me a few times before he ran into the toilet. I thought I was dreaming or something, so I fell back asleep, and a couple seconds later, I started awake like, “That felt real!” And I got up to look for my phone. When I got close to the bathroom, a man ran out, and that’s when I realised everything was real.
I was terrified. I didn’t dare to do anything in case he came back and did anything more to me. I waited until it was quiet outside and used the corridor light to lock my room, found my phone in the dark by the doorway of the toilet, and went downstairs crying.
I found the front desk and asked who came into my room, and she was like, “Your friend?” And I was like, “What friend?” And I demanded to see their security camera, and she told me they didn’t have security cameras. They only had cameras in the lobby and the mahjong room on the 3rd floor. So I called the police.
The police got my partners up and took me to the hospital to test for DNA. I only found out it was that client the next day (because his wife told me that her husband was taken away by cops in the middle of the night and asked if I knew why).
His friends came to the police station to give me money and ask me to settle out of court. My mom wouldn’t agree and felt like he should be punished by the law (my mom is in Guangdong). And they were like, “If you take this money, we can still be friends and work together. It’s fine if you don’t want to take this money. We can still pay to get him out.”
After that, the police ruled he was guilty of molestation and jailed him for 14 days. He said in his statement that he was going to sleep with a whore and got the wrong room number.
I don’t think that was molestation at all. That was definitely rape to me. I couldn’t believe such a ridiculous thing could happen to me, but it really did, and he wouldn’t admit to it either.
After this, I can’t sleep at all. I pretend to be a normal person during the day, and just go home and cry all night. I don’t dare to tell anyone else about this, because it’s not something worth talking about. I had such bad insomnia that I went to the hospital and got told that I had severe depression.”
The next is a photo of the statement the police gave her that they will not conduct an investigation into her case.
And the next is a photo of the document the police gave her of the punishment on the client, which is 14 days in jail.
Then, “Hi, guys. The Mount Emei police called me yesterday because they saw my Xiao Hong Shu post and they’re starting to take this case seriously now. I’m so happy…”
“As for some media reports, I just want to make it clear that I didn’t “get a hotel room with him.” I went with my two coworkers to Mount Emei on a business trip. The client got all three of us three hotel rooms. Please stop trying to muddy the waters, thank you.”
“On Thursday, the hotel contacted me, guys. After the following text exchange, the hotel hasn’t contacted me again. Does it matter how I want to deal with this? So far, all I’ve gotten from the hotel is this short text expression their apology. I don’t know if they only apologised because of the public pressure or if they actually felt guilty.
From that night on, I’ve never slept with the lights off again. I either go to sleep by taking drugs or I don’t sleep at all. I’m exhausted, both physically and emotionally. I don’t know how long I can go on.
I just want the hotel to give me a real apology, and not just try to make this go away because of public pressure.”
The text exchange goes:
Hotel: “Dear honoured guest, hello! First of all, please allow us to express the most sincere of apologies! We’re very sorry that something unpleasant happened during your stay. We genuinely thought you were friends. The case has been settled now, and out of concern for your emotional state, we haven’t attempted to contact you. But if you still can’t let this go, then you’re welcome to bring up any suggestions or ideas to us. We’ll definitely take it into consideration.
Let us express our deepest apologies again and thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to your next visit and promise to provide you with even better service.”
OP: “What ideas do you want me to have? How do you want to deal with this case?”
Hotel: “You go first. We’ll do whatever we can to make up for it that’s within our power.”
OP: “You’re where it started. Your lack of professionalism hurt me like this. I want you guys to tell me how you want to deal with this in the end too.”
Comments say, “What the fuck are the police doing?”
“Why doesn’t anyone care about stuff like this? Girls can never depend on the police for help. That’s so scary.”
“No, seriously, what right does the hotel have to give other people their client’s room PINs? If that was allowed, hotels would be seriously dangerous! And their apology is so official. What the fuck do they mean, “if you still can’t let this go”?? Who can let something like this go in just a few days? Can they put themselves in other people’s shoes? Do they have any of humanity’s heart of feelings? This is making my blood pressure shoot through the roof!”
A blogger posts what looks like a photo of the Three Gorges Dam, with a caption in Japanese underneath, “I think I might have found their weakness. If this dam got destroyed, they’d be fucked.”
And a response underneath, supposedly from an IP in Germany, “You can try it. They must have done a lot of tests, and there must be defense devices around them.”[sic]
And a compilation of comments underneath: “We’ve made it clear in the United Nations before, that the Three Gorges Dam is a nuclear-defended project. Any missile will be intercepted and detonated in midair by satellites, and any attack on the Three Gorges Dam will cause a nuclear counterstrike.”
“I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I don’t think our mom [referring to China here] would be so stupid as to leave such a big weakness to show the whole world.”
“The “three” in the Three Gorges Dam means World War Three.”
“Our mom: who made a Uber Kills order?”
“That’s not quite right. It should be a MurderHub order.”
“The Three Gorges Dam is also named the Immortal Dam.”
“As we all know, one of the criteria for entering into nuclear war for China is the Three Gorges Dam.”
“I hear my teacher say that if the Three Gorges Dam was destroyed, none of China’s southern cities will survive.”
“Skill activation: The Heavens Will Die With Me!”
“I live right near the Three Gorges Dam. You never know how many soldiers are around the dam. It’s super safe where I live.”
“Cool fact: if any of our territory is attacked, we’ll respond with nuclear strikes. Forget about other people’s missiles. When it’s flying over Zhejiang, it’d be intercepted in midair. It’d never see the Three Gorges Dam. And our Dongfeng delivery package will already be on their door.”
“Professor Huang: “Why do I say I’m worried about someone bombing the Three Gorges Dam? Because if other people had this kind of dam, I’d 100% go blow it up.”
“Your missiles might not make it to my Three Gorges Dam, but my missiles will make it to every inch of your soil.”
“Big Daddy China: I’ve been waiting for you to get this idea for the longest time :)”
“Do you know how the Sichuan basin is linked to the Three Gorges Dam? Even if I had to turn into a ghost, I’d float across the oceans to take your life.”
“I saw in a professional book once that we said right when we were building the dam, that no matter which country attacks the Three Gorges Dam, it would be seen as a declaration of war on China.”
“Wow, 2000’s kids sure are optimistic. Us 1980’s and 1990’s kids grew up watching China severely reprimanding people.”
“China would never proactively use nuclear weapons against any other country, except for one. Do you wanna guess which country that is, Japan?”
“I mean, things come in threes, right? It’s not like Japan’s never been nuked before. They’ve got more experience compared to other countries.”
A compilation of the costs of having a kid:
“If you girls are having a hard time grasping this, you can imagine a little kid drinking an entire bottle of 300-500 RMB foundation fluid every week.”
“Before I had my baby, I had 260K in savings. The baby is 21 months old now, and I’m 160K in debt.”
“The scariest thing I’ve ever seen was that my aunt has never worked a day in her life. She never has to worry about bills at home, is from a very comfortable family. And half a year after she had her granddaughter, she went out looking for work…”
“The scariest part is formula is only the beginning.”
“A baby costs a gold necklace every month? I can’t imagine what a bright and happy girl I would be if I got to buy myself a gold necklace every month…”
“Before I had my son, I had 150K in savings. After I had my son, it was gone in the blink of an eye. My mom sponsored me another 100K or so, and my husband brings in 20K a month. I breastfeed. My son is 1 years old now, and I’ve spent nearly 60K already. I considered myself pretty well off before I had my son. After I’ve had him, I want to go whore myself and my husband out on the streets.”
“My baby’s 9 months old and I’ve already spent 20K. Is that normal? Fully breastfeeding. My mom says I’m being wasteful.”
“When I had a baby, I had 110K in savings. My family has a stable income of 15K every month, and no old people, just the three of us. By the time my son turned 1, I had no savings left at all.”
“Before I had a baby: What kind of clothes only cost 59RMB a piece? Is it really safe to wear? After I had a baby: What kind of clothes only cost 19.9RMB a piece? Can I get two for 20RMB please?”
“First baby: My baby has to wear the best! Second baby: It’s not like you’re a girl. Just wear your brother’s hand me downs.”
