07/29/24 - Chinese people seem ashamed of displaying their past mistakes in front of people.
Explosive! #Man steals woman’s shoe and licks it in the stairwell for 40 minutes. “In Jiangsu, Xuzhou, on the 26th, a man went to a female resident’s doorway to steal shoes, and squatted in the stairwell and licked them for 40 minutes. On the 29th, the man came to look for shoes again, and found all the shoes had been put away. The woman in the story claims that she’s lost shoes before and thought she had just misplaced them. When she saw what happened, she thought it was unbelievable. “He was gnawing on them like a watermelon.” She says that the apartment managers won’t do anything about this. She’s called the police, but they’re still investigating.”
Comments say, “My shoes are dirty too. I hope he can come over and lick them clean too.”
“With a fetish like this, why doesn’t he professionally do pedicures or foot massages?”
“It’s illegal to pile up personal items in corridors because it blocks the path to escape in the event of a fire.”
“What kind of job brings in a steady 6K a month? Even better if they pay room and board too. I just want 4 days off a month, 8 hours of work a day, and something suitable for introverted people. (Maybe this kind of job only exists in dreams?)”
Comments say, “If you rent out a lot of houses, you can bring in 6K very steadily.”
“If you’re talking about stability, the only choice is government work, but you have to pass the exam.”
“Write copyrights. Two day weekends, 8K steadily, take time off whenever you want, no boss at work, almost never talk to anyone, just doing research and writing documents on my own.”
#Turkish President slaps boy in public. “Based on Observer Net videos, the Turkish President gently slapped a boy in the face in public, just because he didn’t kiss the President’s hand.”
Comments say, “That’s insane…”
“I know all politicians are fake, but this one isn’t even trying to hide it.”
“This old fart has always been pretty violent.”
[The Chinese men’s gymnastic team lost to Japan in the finals with only 0.5 points in difference. The Chinese team was leading the whole time, and only lost because the final guy fell off the bar twice. Everyone is super mad about this, and the team leader posted a weibo.] “How do I put this…I’m sure a lot of people are losing sleep. I’m really grateful to everyone’s support. It wasn’t easy to get so far. I know everyone wants the best for us, and I’m grateful for your companionship, and grateful that people stay up to watch the competitions. You guys make us better, and you fill us with motivation. So I hope everyone can have a healthy body and can go to bed earlier. Good night~”
Comments say, “Good luck! You’re awesome! You didn’t let down anyone!”
“I mean, sure, but how do I put this? This big of a competition, with a 3 point lead, it’s gotta be a little problematic to let the other side still turn it around. The bar and rings always brings in a lot of points. How did it get to be like this? Only 0.4 points apart. You practically handed the gold medal over to the other side. How many 4 years do you have? By the next Olympics, you’re gonna be 28. A lot of the others are gonna be retired. Sigh.”
“Zhang Fuheng, take a good rest, don’t repress your emotions. You were awesome. You didn’t let anyone down. It’s not easy to get to where you are. Don’t blame yourself.”
A video of an auntie putting false lashes on her niece:
Comments say, “This kind of behaviour is a bit too much…”
“Her eyelashes are beautiful though!”
“But her false lashes really do look like they shine! It’s so interesting!”
A video of the Henan gymnast Zhang Yihan’s performance. Once again, I can’t post it because the Olympics are very touchy about copyright.
Comments say, “What a confident and bright Henan cutiepie!”
“That’s amazing! Keep going!”
“This little girl is so elvish and cute!”
#Government dispels rumours of the death of the female official who reported the County Secretary. “Lately, rumours have been circulating the internet that Li Peixia, who accused Jiangxi’s Wannian County’s County Secretary of sexual assault and molestation, is dead. On the morning of the 39th, Benliu News reporters questioned the Shangrao City Political Committee Cyberspace Administration for evidence, and learned this news was just a rumour.
The rumour claimed that the village official Li Peixia has died mysteriously after being sexually assaulted by County Secretary Mao Qi. When the investigation task force found her, she already had no life signs. A lot of netizens are asking if Li Peixia is dead or alive, and asking for a quick official clarafication.
Morning of the 30th, Benliu News reporters interviewed the Shangrao City Cyberspace Administration about Li Peixia’s death, and the workers there claimed it was just a rumour.
Benliu News has reported previously, that on the 25th, Li Changliu used the internet to accuse with his legal ID that his daughter, Li Peixia, was a Party Secretary of Wannian County’s Shangfang Village, and has been suffering from long-term mental control by County Secretary Mao Qi, and been subjected to molestation and sexual assault. On the 23rd of May, Li Peixia said she wanted to go report Mao Qi to the provincial officials, and yet was arrested herself by the Wannian County Discipline Commission and has been detained until today, with no way to contact the outside world.
Late at night on the 25th, Shangrao City made an announcement that after noticing accusations levied against Mao Qi on the internet, they are taking the information very seriously, and will be immediately establishing a task force to investigate, and the results will be announced to the public shortly. Evening of the 26th, Jiangxi Province’s Discipline Commission website posted, claiming that Wannian County Secretary Mao Qi is suspected of severely violating party regulations and the law, but has turned himself in to the organisation, and is currently accepting questioning and monitoring by the Jiangxi Discipline Commission.”
Comments say, “So what happened to her?”
“Where is she? Why can’t you say?”
“Mysteriously? No way. Who would dare to do such a thing.”
”I don’t know why they keep trying to cover it up. Everyone is gonna know in the end anyways.”
“Uni student with no living expenses during summer break lost 18 pounds like magic!
Been on break for a month now, and every day, it’s an endless cycle of sleep, eat, get yelled at. Stay up every night and wake up at 2PM. I’m alone in the house during the day so there’s no food when I wake up. I don’t have any money, so I can’t get takeout. So I’ll make myself some oatmeal with milk and eat that. By the time my family cooks at night, I’m not hungry anymore, so they yell at me. If I want some boba tea every now and again, I have to embezzle from the grocery fund. It’s been a month and I’ve already lost 18 pounds.”
Comments say, “I don’t understand families who don’t give their kids money. What do they think is gonna happen if they give their kid 50, 100 RMB a day?”
“Why do I still keep gaining weight when I have no money and eat nothing but bread and porridge?”
“Stay up all night and sleep all day? No wonder you get yelled at. You could just cook for yourself, you know.”
“When it comes to batteries’ “calendar lifespan”, no car company in China will tell you the honest truth.
Batteries don’t just wear down when you’re using them. They’re like people—no matter how well you take care of them, they’re gonna die of old age eventually.
Once they reach the end of their calendar lifespan, then it doesn’t matter how many kilometres you ran on them, as soon as that date rolls around, they’ll still die.
And once your warranty is over, 8 years in the future, are you gonna spend 100K RMB on a new battery?”
Comments say, “After driving that electric car for 8 years, isn’t it time to buy a new car?”
“It depends on how much you cycle through them.”
“Wouldn’t batteries be cheap as dirt in 8 years?”
A compilation of posts under the hashtag #What the fuck kind of job makes you go to work in this kind of rain?
“Honestly, why does Beijing rain so much? I feel like I’ve taken damage just going to work.”
“I feel like a hippo. There are waves outside my company door.”
“The subway station is flooded. Is our company HR dead or something? Why aren’t they announcing it’s okay for people to work from home? I worked overtime until 12:30AM last night, and once I wake up this morning, I still have to commute to work in the rain. My salaryman wrath is reaching the heavens.”
“It’s pouring rain, but I still went to work on my bicycle. Seriously, I can’t even.”
“The rain is just way too much today. I felt like I sailed 20km of road rather than drove. In a lot of particularly flooded areas, all the scooters and bicycles are getting forced into the car lanes. Reminds me of 2012.”
[From an IP in Poland] “This 100 year old lion display area got preserved. It’s only as big as my fingernail. They don’t keep any animals here now, but they built a bridge so people can walk inside and feel what it’s like.
I’ve suggested to the Wuhan Zoo to preserve at least a part of their prison-like monkey enclosure, so the visitors can walk in and experience how much they’ve changed.
They didn’t listen to me though.”
Comments say, “The newly refurbished Wuhan Zoo sucks ass. They’ve lost their only good point of having lots of trees.”
“Germany’s Dortmund Zoo’s old tiger cage is the same way too. They put up a placard next to it. It’s kind of nice, but it’s hard to pull off in China. There’s too much of a cultural difference.”
“Just a thought, no idea if it’s true or not. But Chinese people seem ashamed of displaying their past mistakes in front of people (even if it was just a problem of the times). They can correct their mistakes, but they can’t openly admit to them.”
“I don’t like to order sweet potato stems in restaurants, because most are the really long stem that’s really old, and they won’t have skinned it or anything. It’s literally like chewing on grass. The chef knows it too, so to make it taste better, they’ll add tons and tons of oil and cook it to death, and it’ll end up tasting even worse (see pic 2). The sweet potato stems in pic 1 is the good kind. The stem is short and thin, and it’s very tender. You don’t have to skin it at all. Just fry it with garlic and lard, and it’ll be super tasty. But you’ll only find these maybe two times out of ten.”
Comments say, “Aren’t you supposed to steam them?”
“I just bought some sweet potato leaves yesterday. Love them.”
“I’ve bought some on Pupu and Hema [grocery apps] before and they were super tender. I’ve never had any nearly as tender anymore.”
“I don’t understand the purpose to us normal doctors who aren’t directors existing.
I just heard a patient arguing this morning. She’s a 57-year-old breast cancer patient currently in treatment, and due to her reoccurring ob/gyn issues, she needs a hysterectomy, but she refused to have her eggs and tubes removed. She argued with her doctor about how he didn’t give her enough time to think, she doesn’t want to be over-medicated.
Then the director came over and talked to her for a minute, and she was fine.
Now we’ve got a patient who just got diagnosed with cancer. Standard procedure is to give her chemo. Her doctor called up to suggest she start chemotherapy, and her response is, “But I don’t want to do chemo! I want to see if I can kill the cancer with sheer willpower!
Of course, we were against that. So she went and got an appointment with the director, who told her to go get chemo too. And now she’s getting chemo.
I don’t know what the point to us normal doctors is.
Is it possible that the treatment plans we give to patients have all gone through the director for permission already?
But most utterly unreasonable, super argumentative patients will throw a tantrum at young doctors, and then spend a ton more money to get an appointment with the director, pay for a specialist, and they’re satisfied with just a line or two from the director.
Honestly, sometimes, we’re not trying to make the patient spend more money at all, but she won’t believe us if she doesn’t!”
Comments say, “Are you sure every doctor always gives out reliable diagnostics or the best treatment plan?”
“One time, I got keratisis, and got an appointment with a normal doctor at a top-ranked hospital. She treated it as a viral infection, and when I went in for a check up 3 days later, nothing had improved but she wouldn’t give me a new prescription. Another three days passed and I couldn’t take it anymore and got an appointment with a specialist, who told me that it was caused by blepharitis, and I got better right away with the new drugs. So I kind of get it.”
“But this run around process gives them more time to think about and accept reality. At first, they probably just didn’t want to face the cruel news. A line from your director cuts off their last ray of hope.”
