06/03/25 - My worst nightmare as the mother of a daughter just happened. My 3rd grade daughter has started writing stories.
“Is it normal for the colour of the Van Cleef bracelet my boyfriend gifted me to rub off? He’s gifted me an Apple Airpod before that turned out to be knockoffs, and he said he parents bought those. Is this normal?”
Comments say, “Sweetie, if he can afford to gift you a Van Cleef worth 120K, you should be in Japan or Maldives or Singapore, not working customer service at your desk.”
“Sister, if he gifted this to you as though it’s the real deal and told you it’s worth 120K, why would you even accept it? What if he found an excuse to break up with you and make you give him back a real one? It’s 120K! If you get it assessed and give him the report and demand to know why it’s fake, he’ll either get mad or he’ll say he asked a friend to buy it, or got it from a buying agent or something and say he got scammed himself…”
“Everyone I know who can afford this kind of bracelet can take a nap any time they want at home.”
“This design if a limited edition and only a couple dozen were ever made. Even if you spent a couple million at the brand, you’d still have to wait in line and might not get it.”
“If a man was going to buy you luxury jewellery, and it’s this expensive, he’d bring you to the store because he gets more face this way.”
“I’m a little worried if this is just bait…do you seriously not know in your heart if your boyfriend is the type of person to buy you a 120K gift? Most people don’t make 120K a year. A lot of people don’t get 120K for their bride price. And you got a 120K bracelet?”
“No wonder all of you have boyfriends. Turns out this is what you’re dating.”
“Honestly, if you’re not picky, you can find a partner no problem. Any man or woman will work, right?”
“If it was really 120K, he would bring you to the store and buy it in front of you. Why would he miss such an opportunity to show off?”
“Yeah, men will take you to buy any gift over 10K.”
“The real deal doesn’t rub off at all, not even if it’s custom made. You think about it yourself.”
“Not even knockoffs fade, to be honest.”
“I haven’t even seen a real one before and I can tell this is fake.”
“It looks lower quality than my 20RMB watch chain.”
“The auntie I know with one of these is on vacation right now in southern France. She doesn’t drink Luckin’ and she doesn’t have to work.”
“Do you think this is normal, baby? We can be stupid, but don’t act ignorant.”
“Think about how much money you and your boyfriend normally spend and it should be obvious whether this bracelet is real or not.”
“You better bring up that it’s fake soon or else he’s gonna demand 120K from you when you break up.”
“Did I do something wrong? My daughter wants to go out with three female classmates. I said yes, that I could drive her to her destination, and then go hang out at the mall or something while I wait for her, and when she’s done, we can go home together. And she totally overreacted, started screaming that she has no freedom at all, that no one else’s parents do this. Did I do something wrong?”
Comments say, “Why would you follow her there? Are you really gonna stay in the mall and not follow her? I don’t believe you.”
“I wouldn’t be able to have fun at all because I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about how my mom is waiting on me. That’s just how I am.”
“Don’t tell her you’re waiting for her at the mall. Just ask her if she needs you to drive her or if she needs some extra money for a cab. Kids are gonna grow up. Just teach her to avoid sex, drugs, and gambling.”
#Ukraine claims attack on Crimea Bridge “On the surface of it, Russia looks very merciful, agreeing to transfer 6000 Ukrainian soldier’s bodies back to Ukraine.
In reality, Russia is pure evil.
Why?
Because Zelinskyy bragged once that all Ukrainian soldiers who died for their country, their families can receive 15 million hryvnia (roughly 2.8 million RMB). For 6000 bodies, that would come out to 90 billion hryvnia, roughly 16.2 billion RMB.
With the policy of “20% at first and the other 80% over the next 40 months”, that still means the treasury needs to immediately issue 18 billion hryvnia.
And in April of 2025, the Ukrainian treasury only made 85 billion hryvnia.
The cost of receiving these 6000 bodies already took up nearly 1/5th of their income for April, and this doesn’t include other benefits for military families, like the 20K hryvnia families receive every month and their children’s education.
This basically means that at the wave of their hand, the Russians have drained 90 billion hryvnia from Ukraine.
And honestly, with how the Ukrainian economy is doing, it’s not likely they’ll actually be able to cover this expense.
What a scheme Russia has put together.
The worst part is, if the negotiations go well and Russia announces that they’re going to return another 60,000 bodies, Ukraine would probably pass out.
This is why Zelinskyy was so mad yesterday when Russia proposed “a ceasefire for 2-3 days in order to collect bodies” as “moronic”! The Great Zelinskyy knows what’s up and he can see through the Russians’ tricks.”
Comments say, “I was just saying this this morning. Just the compensation due here is enough for Ukraine and Zelinskyy to worry about for a long time to come.”
“Russia should consider, especially after Ukraine just attacked their airbases, immediately handing over several thousand bodies, and let the family of the deceased come pick it up at the border. And every time Ukraine attacks them, they can return a couple thousand or even tens of thousands of bodies, and encourage the family of the deceased to come collect it.”
“Ukraine lost over 70,000 soldiers in Kursk. I’m not surprised if Russia has another 60K in stock.”
“My worst nightmare as the mother of a daughter just happened.
My 3rd grade daughter has started writing stories, with strong female protagonists, a female Emperor in fact. This morning, her dad got called to school and got chewed out by the head teacher. How should I educate my kid about this? I honestly have no idea. Any other moms run into the same situation?”
Comments say, “Just hold onto it for her. Once she grows up, she’ll beg you to throw it out.”
“So long as she’s not dating anyone and it’s not affecting her grades, it’s not big deal.”
“Aren’t you supposed to say, “You write pretty well. If you read more books and increase your vocabulary, I bet you can become an even better writer.” A lot of kids these days don’t even know how to write stories anymore, and you think this is a bad thing? What the hell.”
#Ukraine destroys 41 Russian strategic bombers. “I used to think Russia was the second strongest country in the world. Once they started fighting Ukraine, it turned out they’re not even as strong as China. Then after a while, we found out that all their weapons are a whole generation behind ours. Then after Pakistan beat up India, everyone discovered that their weapons are more than a generation behind ours.
Now it seems like Russia’s entire national management system is a generation behind the West. Putin used to work in spy work himself, and he keeps getting defeated by spy tricks. Isn’t that embarrassing? It seems like they don’t know how to do anything except shoot missiles and fire off cannons.”
Comments say, “This is more of a terror attack.”
“They don’t even have hangars.”
“Our J-36 has led for a while but we still don’t have strategic bombers. We can deal with any neighbours using the H-6, and we’ve got Dongfeng missiles, but it’s still gonna take a couple of years before we have strategic stealth bombers…”
“When did I realise there are overpaid professions?
It was when I was in school, and I found that a lot of really impressive jobs during that 3-5 years, like elevator operators, data entry, phone line operators, etc, were all highly-paid, prestigious, well-respected, and entirely unskilled.
When I first realised this, I was shocked.
Can you imagine it?
A really prestigious job used to be pushing elevator buttons for people. The requirements were pretty high too. You had to be pretty, with good make up, high EQ, know what people want, can greet all the big bosses and politicians and their wives. Everyone was jealous of people who had these jobs.
When you start thinking about this and scaling it across era, you wouldn’t be so impressed by these so called “highly-paid tech company jobs”.
Maybe what I’m about to say is very blunt and hard to hear, but…
When an industry gets an overwhelming concentration of capital, there’s going to a lot of overpaying.
Like if you’re a product manager and make 30-50K a month, you might not actually need to manage people at all (I’m not talking about titles or numbers here, but just about decisions about what happens to a team and promotions and raises). This is basically the amount of money a CEO makes in a normal industry. But a high grade bolt and the connections and resources a CEO has isn’t even in the same tier. They can’t even eat at the same table. They can’t even toast the same people.
(I would never talk about this sort of thing on any platform outside of Weibo. It’s just asking to get bullied.)
In real life, I’ve told my friends, “If your family doesn’t actually need your income, then go find a job that’s not that well-paid but puts you very close to the boss and puts you in charge of general direction. Managers never get paid as much as programmers, but managers get to shape how the entire industry thinks, but programmers are just fixing specific problems.
Find the path that suits you, don’t focus on the small potatoes, and that’s the answer.
And primary information is the source of productivity.”
Comments say, “Right? I didn’t pick the highest paid offer I had, I picked the one that reports directly to the guy in charge. The closer you get to the money, the more you see the bigger picture. (Though I kind of want to say, when I can stop eating the cake that my boss rewards to me and get to make my own cake to eat like my boss does?)”
“I agree. When the industry is doing badly across the board, as a manager, after joining a project, most of what you’re doing is still groundwork. There are too many projects trying to do too many things, and you can’t learn what each person is supposed to do. And since you weren’t there from the beginning, the amount of “big picture” you can see is very limited, and you’re worried that your lower salary might mean that you’re not getting some of the invisible value, and you’re falling behind the amount of money society expects you to make.”
