#9-year-old runs away from home in fear of beatings finally reunited after 22 years.
“Woke up this morning to see a hell of a news story.
On the 13th of March, 2004, 9-year-old Liu Xiuhong was playing at a friend’s house and broke their shampoo bottle. She was afraid of being beaten by her mom, so she ran outside on her own, and got lost around the farmer’s market in Xianyao Village, Jieyang City, Guangdong, and lost contact with her family.
Around 8-9PM that same night, her adopted father found her south of Yuzhou Bridge and took her home. After Liu Xiuhong disappeared, local Jieyang television aired interviews with her parents for three nights in a row, and they have been looking for her ever since.
What a unique way of dressing up kidnapping a kid. Did police not exist back in 2004? Why would it end up with the bio-mom saying sorry? The primary people responsible for her disappearing for 22 years are her supposed “adopted parents”.
According to statute 35 of the PRC Prevention of Underage Crimes Law, any persons or organisations that shelter underaged persons who ran away from home must immediately contact their parents, guardian, school, or police. After the adopted dad found the little girl, he never called the police or tried to contact her guardians. He broke the law.
And some people are even saying, “Thank god she didn’t run into anyone evil.” I can’t even…What kind of person except an evil bastard would find a 9-year-old kid at night, not call the police, take her home, and just raise her as their own (even though a 9-year-old remembers plenty of stuff and she’s probably more than capable of helping you find her family)?”
Comments say, “How is he her “adopted dad” the very night that she went missing? Shouldn’t it just be, “Found by so-and-so south of Yuzhou bridge and taken home without calling the police”?”
“In 2004, we successfully applied to host the Olympics and everyone had cellphones. Is it that hard to call 110?”
“So long as you launder human trafficking as adoption, then we can end human trafficking. This is journalism at work, people.”
#Woman claims to have been tricked into marrying 34-year-old man at 16-years-old. Escaped long term domestic violate and fell in love and had a son, just to be declared guilty of “bigamy”. Original husband declares he’ll only forgive if she pays 350,000RMB or else she has to go to prison. “March of 2025, Shuangfeng County People’s Court’s first hearing ruled that Gou lived with another person as husband and wife and had children with them despite being married at the time, making her guilty of bigamy, and sentenced her to one year. Original husband Huang claims that Gou must pay him 350,000RMB in damages before he’s willing to settle, or else he will persist until she goes to prison.
In 2008, Gou was still in school, less than 16-years-old, and was tricked into going from Guizhou to Hunan under the guise of “attending a wedding” by her father and uncle and married off to 34-year-old Huang. In 2009 and 2011 respectively, she had two sons with him. In 2012, she finally reached the legal marriage age of 20-years-old, and was forced to get a marriage certificate with Huang so her children can be properly registered.
“I’ve tried fighting, but I couldn’t do anything.” Gou told Red Star News. “I was less than 145cm, and only about 30kg. And my dad and all my family had abandoned me. What can I do except cry to myself every night?”
Huang doesn’t agree with Gou’s accusations. “Her dad and uncle clearly married her off to me, and she was willing too.” Afternoon of 27th of May, this year, Huang told Red Star News. “I didn’t even want to marry her. She’s too short.”
After suffering long-term domestic violence, Gou managed to escape in 2017 and went no contact in 2020. She later met Xiang while working in Guangdong, moved in with him, and had children with him. She was afraid of losing the relationship, so she never told Xiang she was already married. “I learned what love was like with him. I felt a warmth I never felt before.” Gou said that Xiang and his mother were both very nice to her.
On the 11th of July, 2025, Gou reported Huang to the Shuangfeng County police station for rape and human trafficking.
On the 28th of September, 2025, Shuangfeng Xian issued a “Refusal to Issue Police Report”, claiming that, “After investigation, we believe that Huang’s behaviour does not constitute trafficking, and there is not enough evidence to support rape or any other criminal contact. The case also happened in 2008, well before the statute of limitations, so we cannot establish a case.”
Right now, Xiang’s second hearing for bigamy has begun and a ruling has yet to be made. According to Red Star News, Gou’s second hearing is due to start soon too.”
Comments say, “She’s still underaged at 16-years-old. She should make another police report about that.” [Age of consent in China is unfortunately 14.]
“They should look into whether she was really married at 16 and had her first child at 17, right?”
“She wasn’t even 18-years-old when she was married. Let’s start by sentencing him for molesting and raping an underage minor, okay?”
“After my sister had a baby, it’s like it’s the only thing left in her world anymore.
The first incident:
I was travelling today and just finished talking to my brother. It occurred to me I should share these beautiful views with my sister who never goes out much too, but she refused, because “the baby’s sleeping, I can’t talk.”
I was kind of shocked. I knew she might be busy, that’s why I texted first, but that was a totally unexpected answer for me.
“The baby’s sleeping so I can’t talk.” It’s such a short sentence, but it makes me feel so tired.
I don’t know what to say to her, so I quickly ended up that conversation.
The second incident:
Around 9PM, my sister texted and asked what I was doing.
I voice-called her and I could hear her baby babbling away on the other side. My sister said, “She’s very curious so she’s a little upset I’m not playing videos for her anymore.”
I turned video on and saw that fat little girl my sister was raising again. I don’t feel like she’s changed at all from the last time I saw her, but my sister can tell me all kinds of details about how she’s changed.”
Comments say, “When you’re in school, you’re gonna talk about school. After you start working, you’re gonna talk about work. If you’re dating someone, you’re gonna talk about your date. After you’re married with kids, you’re gonna talk about your kids. Every stage of life has its focus. That doesn’t mean you stopped being you.”
“Why can’t she talk if the babyis sleeping? That’s so weird.”
“This means there’s another cute little baby in this world being loved and taken care of by her mommy.”
“Anyone with a baby would know that if it’s sleeping, if God himself came down and woke the baby up, you would throw him out of a window.”
“Saw a true story. A female police officer in Tianjin was off duty, taking a walk in casual clothes, when she saw an old man fall over. She helped him up and took him to the hospital and paid 3000RMB up front for hospital bills for him.
In the whole process, the officer didn’t tell them her identity. Soon enough, the old man’s children got tot he hospital, and the old man insisted that she had pushed him over. His kids started cussing the officer out and demanding 10K.
So the officer was forced to show them her ID and called 110 to check security cameras to prove her innocence.
The old man and his kids were dumbfounded and hurried to apologise, but the officer didn’t let them get away. She turned around and sued the old man in court, demanding 40K in emotional damages.
She won the court case, and the old man was held for extortion. She got 40K, but she donated it all to charity.
What a great officer. The only question I want to ask is: If it was a normal person getting extorted instead, what’s the chances they can turn it around too?”
Comments say, “If she didn’t donate the money she won, it’d be even more perfect. It’ll intimidate evil-doers.”
“This turn around is really disappointing. There’s nothing wrong with being kind, but you need to have some self-preservation wisdom in a complicated environment.”
“Probably the same. There’s security cameras and evidence.”
“I know a salesman who’s 32-years-old, makes 12K a month, and supporting three families on his own.
His parents in his hometown get 1K a month. He bought a marital house in that small town that has 3200RMB in mortgage due every month, but he can’t live in that house because he works out of state, so he pays rent elsewhere too. And his kid is in daycare, and the tuition is 1300RMB a month.
I ask him how much he has left over per month.
He calculated it out and said maybe about a thousand.
Assuming he doesn’t get sick, doesn’t get into an accident, and doesn’t need to give out gifts.
To an outsider, he has a house, a car, and a kid. He’s getting along great in life. Only he knows what a tight rope he’s walking.
This isn’t just his story.
When you get paid every month, that’s not your money. That’s already pre-assigned money—house payments, car payments, kids’ tuition, parents’ living expenses, rent—none of these expenses change.
You think you’re managing your life, but you’re just handling money for someone else.
The most exhausted people around 30 want to lie flat too, but they’ve chosen to not run away. They used their shoulders to carry the last generation’s last years, then next generation’s future, and this generation’s dignity.
This isn’t a fight that should be celebrated. This is a struggle that should be seen.”
Comments say, “Wrong choices. He shouldn’t have bought a house and a car on that income.”
“Makes me tired just reading it.”
