A tiktok video is trending of a 25-year-old man sharing his experience getting a vasectomy, and getting a lot of mocking comments calling him a “eunuch”. He responds, “Vasectomies don’t have any effect on your health. I don’t want a second baby, for the sake of my wife’s health.”
Comments say, “So some other man can give your wife a second baby?”
“My dad’s 20 years ahead of his time in mentality. When he was in his twenties, they were forcing contraceptive surgeries as a part of the One Child Policy. In my village, every family would send their women to get an IUD. My mom said she’s afraid of pain, so my dad walked 2 km to do a vasectomy and walked back by himself. My mom felt so bad about it that she still brings it up after 30-some years. Now my dad is in his fifties, and climbs mountains carrying my 40-pound son. He’s so much better than my son’s shitty useless dad.”
“Why are the men in the comment section freaking out so much?”
“What if you get a divorce? Are you not gonna have kids again? What if your second wife really wants kids? Unless you commit to never remarrying, isn’t that irresponsible to your future wife?”
“My boss texted me in the middle of the night telling me to take his relatives around Nanjing on vacation? I’m so mad I’m about to explode! I saw some suggestions and was going to gently turn him down claiming I wasn’t feeling well, but he wouldn’t listen to me, so I guess I’ll just start naming prices then!”
She attaches the texts:
Boss: “[OP], how are the vacation plans coming along?”
OP: “Sorry, boss, I’ve been feeling dizzy and having a low fever lately, might have gotten covid. I want to stay home and rest up this weekend.”
Boss: “Oh, okay. Well, take care of yourself and rest up.”
OP: “Thanks, boss.”
Boss: “Rest up as much as you can the next two days, so you can get through the weekend with my family.”
OP: “Okay, boss. Here’s the expense sheet. Since you’re pretty nice to me usually, I’ve put a 10% discount on all the prices. Take a look and let me know if you need any additional information.”
The expenses she attaches are, “Making an itinerary, 19.9 RMB for a 1-2 day trip, or 29.9 RMB for a 3-7 day trip. Tour guide services, 500 RMB per day, 9AM to 5PM, 50 RMB an hour if she goes into overtime. Doesn’t include any explanations about sights—if you want those, then it’s an additional 300 RMB per day. Eating together, 500 RMB per meal, she won’t drink. All transportation and ticket costs have to be reimbursed. Services to snipe tickets online, 20 RMB per ticket, doesn’t guarantee she can actually succeed.
Comments say, “Raise all your prices. Make sure you’re more expensive than anyone else on the market even after the discounts.”
“The prices for tour guide services are reasonable enough, but you’re charging too little for making an itinerary and sniping tickets. What if they just hire you to do those?”
“My HR was even more hilarious. Working as P6 in Alibaba, I had to go to the hospital every Saturday at the time for my shots. And I needed to provide my medical transcript, my number in line, and receipt from the hospital to him. And then he insisted that everyone has to work overtime on Saturday. I explained my situation and he was just like, “Well, sort it out yourself.” I’ve quit now and I still remember that asshole.”
A blogger reposts a story someone else told, “Got beat by my dad as a little kid, and I was crying while I ate my dinner. I just had a whole bowl of plain white rice with a side of tears, to show how upset I was. Didn’t touch any of the stir fry on the table. After I was done, I went to hide in my room and be sad, and overheard my parents fighting. I snuck by the door to listen in, and I heard my dad say, “Why didn’t you put some meat in her bowl!? Why didn’t you put some meat in her bowl!?””
Comments say, “Holy shit, how can you guys make this all about feminism too? I never would’ve thought.”
“Beat your kid and then bully your wife. Can we try to act a little more human, please?”
“Why don’t you put some meal in her bowl? Why are you just blaming the mom? Are your hands broken? Making all of this the mom’s fault in a couple of sentences, huh?”
“Do Norwegians know they’re super lucky? I was just chatting with my boyfriend yesterday, and the topic came to out respective countries, and he said that Norway is a very lucky country. It’s got a ton of natural resources, with hydro power and cheap electricity, and a super long shoreline, and a ton of oil. They’re so lucky! (Maybe he realised what a showoff he sounds like, so he said that China’s very lucky too compared to Korea and Japan, because it has so much land).
Then he told me about his best friend, who’s 31 and never worked a day in his life and doesn’t plan to start. The government gives him over 10K Krones a month, which works out to like 9K RMB. I asked how Norway can afford all these benefits, and my boyfriend showed me a website that shows the growing oil fund they have ticking up every second.
I asked why they use taxpayer money to support lazy fucks, and he says that everyone has a right to live with dignity.”
Comments say, “Yeah, yeah, I don’t deserve to lay flat. I don’t even dream about shit like this. I just want to survive.”
“It’s because we haven’t found any oil. And if we did, it all belongs to the government anyways.”
“If you like it so much over there, go then. Nothing I want to say about it, everyone’s got different thoughts, I guess.”
“That doesn’t fit with socialist philosophy, though.”
Question: “Why do you never hear about whole cut steak in the west?”
Answer: “A Chinese person went to get a doctorate in America, and wanted to invent equipment that would quickly detect melamine in milk.
And the Americans were like, “I get what you’re saying, but why would you look for industrial chemicals in milk?””
“It’s because American technology isn’t as advanced as China’s. They still have to get their steaks from cattle.”
Under the hashtag #Master’s Degree mom of two babies send out 84 resumes and get 0 replies, a blogger writes, “Statistics show that Chinese men spend more and more time on housework, childcare, and taking care of old people. If you divide it by age group, young men do more housework than young women. Young men commonly know how to cook food, but less and less young women know how to cook, and they’re even proud of it. A “good wife and mother” is now an insult in women’s eyes, and it’s the norm to not do any housework.
But why do men never complain about workplace discrimination because they’re the dad of two children or more? Because if they can’t find work, they figure it’s their own fault, but women never think they’re responsible for not being able to find work.
Also, I think Chinese media has very anti-market-economy leanings. They’re always complaining about workplace discrimination of women. They seem to think that so long as women want jobs, they should be able to find it right away. Please, then it’s not a free market economy anymore! And without the market economy, how would Chinese women get such good lives these days?”
Comments say, “Where are these statistics? Can you give a citation?”
“What kind of bullshit are you spewing? Women aren’t getting discriminated because they’re taking care of children in their off time. It’s because of pregnancy and childbirth and the fact that when kids get sick, it’s always the moms who take time off of work to manage it. Men doing a little bit of housework in their off time changes nothing. You can still demand men work overtime until midnight every day, and they can go home and go to sleep and claim they did their share supporting their family.”
“After all, men can’t give birth to children, so they’re not worried about you taking maternity leave.”
“Hey, are there any Chinese-made cartoons with a female protagonist?
My kiddo said that America has Elsa, and she has magic, and she’s a princess, and my daughter likes magical princesses. Are there any Chinese cartoons with female protagonists or a predominantly female caste? I want to change her tastes.
I’ve thought about it, and can’t come up with anything except Mulan?”
Comments say, “Well, there’s plenty of Japanese cartoons with female protagonists, but it’s all about the male gaze.”
“I grew up watching anime, so I had no idea that there aren’t any Chinese cartoons with a female protagonist?? That’s completely incongruous with my perception of women’s status. Japan has Sailor Moon and Phantom Thief Jeanne and Chibi Maruko-chan, and countless others).”
“Well, several came to mind…(the Small Giant, Mona the Vampire, etc), and then I realised none of them are from China. China only has, like….I dunno, Diamond Sisters? And it’s only a spin off of the Diamond Brothers. Honestly, does a cartoon even exist in China with a female protagonist that isn’t covered in stereotypes (pink, frilly dresses, high heels, long eyelashes, dolls, bows, etc?) Japan at least has Spirited Away.”
“Yeah, we’ve got Little Zhuoma, all about a Tibetan little girl, with a plot line mostly about the hunting and protection of Tibetan mountain goats.”
“Yeah, it’s hard to think of one where the girl is the primary protagonist. Most of them are just a companion that shows up as a part of a boy’s journey, like the dragon girl in Nezha’s story. Look at other people’s The Twelve Kingdoms, or Moribito, they actually have a solid plot line and character arch about girls.”
“If there aren’t any female protagonists, I’ll create them myself. I grew up watching Nezha as though he was a girl. Gosh, you should’ve seen how much I freaked out the first time I found out he was supposed to be a boy.”
What is "whole cut steak"?
Is it not common knowledge that vasectomies are reversible? Also, do women ever lie about their marital status or how many kids they have? Or would they get caught?
