“I’m so annoyed with hiring maids. The last one said that her last families was always eating seafood, and she always has a glass of milk in the morning and her employer buys is, and my kid is still growing and he’s not getting enough meat. I made her go away right away. Guys, when you hire a maid, you’ve got to ask their dietary and lifestyle habits. Don’t wait to find out later and waste your time and your energy.
This is the food our new maid made. She’s got a good sense of boundaries. This is what we eat when only we’re at home. My kid eats at school, and only has dinner at home. I don’t mind it. I like veggies. If my husband and kid are around, I’ll make more meat dishes for them.”
Comments say, “I mean, she’s right that your meals suck. But it still wasn’t her place to say it out loud.”
“I swear, everyone on weibo is bougie. Both me and all my friends eat like this at home—all our meals are just a meat dish + a veggie dish. Who eats fancy every meal?”
“It’s just because it’s harder to get kickbacks when she’s just buying vegetables. Isn’t that what most family meals are like? I can’t imagine what she eats usually if she thinks this is bad.”
“Saw a case of someone seeking their family. Parents opened a restaurant in the city, and sent their two kids to live with their grandparents in the countryside. The 12-year-old brother got beat by his grandpa because he got bad grades in an exam. Angered, he took his 8-year-old sister with him and left home.
He was planning on going to the city to find his parents, but accidentally took the bus going in the wrong direction and got lost in a city he didn’t know. His sister is fussing about wanting to go home, but he was determined to not go back.
Then, they met a human trafficker named Wang. And I dunno want Wang told the brother, but he told his sister that they were going to go with Wang, and boarded a train with him. They rode farther and farther away, took a lot of different connections. The sister had a sense that something was wrong and started tantrumming and refusing to go. And she drew the attention of a patrolling police officer. But she didn’t get a chance to describe what was going on before her brother stopped her, and she lost her last chance to get away.
Then, Wang ended up selling the brother to a family in Shandong that had several daughters but no sons. The sister was a lot harder to sell, so he ended up selling her to a old garbage man. And then the old man sold her to a different family, who was super abusive to her, and she spent several years living lower than the pigs.
A decade or so passes, the sister grows up, and a young man in a neighbouring village put together enough of a bride price to marry her, and she finally was freed from her suffering. She wants to find her parents, and her husband and in-laws are totally in support of that.
Her birth parents had closed their restaurant to look for their kids. They ended up divorced, and the kids’ grandma had died of depression. Then, after reporting the whole situation to the police, the sister was finally reunited with her family after 17 years.
Then, they started looking for her brother. Based on her memories and a lot of investigation, they finally found the brother. He’s living a pretty good life. His adoptive parents love him very much, and he owns two flower shops now and lives very comfortably. He says that the reason he left home all those years ago wasn’t because he got beat by his grandpa at all, but because his parents fought all the time, and his dad had an explosive temper, and would take it out on him every time he got drunk. He couldn’t take it anymore and left.
In the end, the brother thought that his adoptive parents were really good to him, so he refused to return to his birth parents. And all he had to say about his sister’s suffering was that he was sorry.
The parents screwed up, and the sister ended up the victim. As for the brother, all I can say is that he’s pretty fucking ruthless.”
Comments say, “After reading all that, I just feel like men really are destined survivors on the genetic level. They’re ruthless enough.”
“I just feel bad for the sister. She never even got to go to school :(“
“It’d be one thing if he left on his own because his life sucked. What the fuck did he mean taking his sister with him? I can’t stand seeing girls suffer. God, I want to rip someone a new one.”
“Just saw a wedding yesterday. Both people involved wore a suit, no wedding dresses. There was a banquet in a pretty nice hotel. Their marital house looked really nice too. And both their parents looked super happy.
I was just thinking to myself how far we’d come as a society. Both sets of parents look so sweet and happy. And even in an area known for conservatism, people are willing to accept two men marrying each other and forming a family now.
And then I found out today that that was actually a gay man and a butch lesbian marrying each other to be each other’s beards.”
Comments say, “Reading the first part, I was all like ohhh it’s so nice to be accepted <3 And then I got to the last sentence and I was like Ha. Lol. Of course there are no fairy tales in real life.”
“I mean, is that not a form of love in and of itself?”
“So…they got outed across the whole country because this post went viral?”
A tiktok video of someone complaining about their experience vacationing in Sanya [Chinese Hawaii]:
“If you wear something light or something good-looking, you’ll get followed by a whole bunch of creeps. As soon as I step onto the resort, I get surrounded by people trying to forcibly sell me on all sorts of crap. And there’s people taking photos, shoving their cameras in my face. I told them I don’t want any photos, and they don’t listen at all. And all their photos are ugly as shit. And if you’re, like, ‘I don’t want to look. I don’t want these photos.’ Then they’re like, ‘I’m not charging you anything!’ And they’ll even get mad and yell at me. And they take such creepy photos too! Like, I squat down to draw a heart in the sand, and immediately, there are people trying to take photos of my butt, trying to get panty shots.”
Comments say, “You can solve all your problems by just wearing a bit more.”
“It’s like the Sanya Tourism Board all died or something. There are so many problems and they’re doing nothing about any of them.”
“They’re not charging, sure, but they’re violating your privacy.”
“The nicest people in Sanya are all from Dongbei.”
A tiktok video of an extremely loaded potato being made:
Comments say, “How can she make the potato that smooth with just a little plastic knife? I’ve pounded that shit with a rolling pin and there’s still solid bits and pieces.”
“Isn’t it better to put chilli powder and mushrooms on it?”
“I didn’t know westerners liked green onions too.”
“Imagine how many calories are in this.”
“It’s the end of the year again, and I asked my wife how much money we saved away this year, and she was like, “None.” And I was like, “I gave you all my earnings for a year. That’s 180K RMB! Where did all the money go?”
And she insisted she wasn’t hiding money and wasn’t giving it to her family. She gave me an accounting book and hasn’t talked to me in a week.
The two of us have three kids, five people in our family. Her accounting book is basically something like this:
Mortgage: 3000 a month, 36K a year.
Tuition and living expenses for two kids: 20K.
4K living expenses a month, 48K in a year.
Gas: 300 a month, 3.6K a year.
Car insurance: 3000.
Property Management fee: 3000.
New Years and birthday gifts for parents: 6000.
Other presents for various birthdays and weddings: 5000
End of year sausage making: 1500.
Chinese New Year preparations: 10K.
Clothing for the kids: 2K.
Phone bill: 3000.
A new phone: 2000.
Miscellaneous expenses, like kids’ birthdays, shopping on the weekends, getting a cold: adds up to about 3000.
That’s about 150K in expenses alone.
I was shocked seeing this. I make about 16K a month, 180K a year. That felt like a lot of money. But by the end of the year, we can only put away about 20-30K. Making money is way too hard. Everything is expensive.
How about everyone else?”
Comments say, “It’s all because you have too many kids. If you didn’t have any kids, you could live like kings on 180K.”
“You’re pretty brave having three kids. Kids are like Gold-Eating Beasts. It costs 2 million to raise one from birth to college graduation.”
“She only spends 2000 a year on buying clothes for three kids? A new phone for 200? And all her miscellaneous expenses, including taking the kids to the doctors, only adds up to 3000? Your wife is way too frugal! I don’t see anything she’s spent on herself!”
A kiddo was abandoned in Sichuan, with a note that says due to “family emergencies”, her family can no longer afford to take care of her, so they’ve left her on the ground here and hopes someone will take her home and raise her.
The original poster says, “This kiddo is from Sichuan, Dicheng. I’m from Jiangsu and am visiting Sichuan for the New Years. I feel so bad for her. I’m making a post about this in the hopes that someone will see it and want to adopt her. She’s only 4 months old. Poor baby. I don’t know why she would get abandoned. All my friends have made guesses, but we don’t know for sure, because the note doesn’t specify anything, and didn’t leave any contact info. I’ve already called the police, and we don’t have any orphanages around here, so I had to take her to the city. I’ve asked, and right now, too many people are paying attention to this baby, so the workers there say I can’t visit her yet. I think the police are still trying to find her biological parents and figure out why they abandoned her. If she hasn’t been adopted by the time I need to go back to Jiangsu, then I’m going to go back and visit her. I feel so bad about all of this.”
Comments say, “Oh my gosh, look how cute and chubby and pretty she is. I feel like her family really was taking good care of her. Why would they throw her away so suddenly?”
“Looking at the note, I feel like it was written by educated people, probably working in finance. They’ve got good grammar and good handwriting. They don’t seem uneducated or old.”
“I can’t imagine how anyone could bring themselves to do this. But then again, if she found a good family, maybe they’d take better care of her than her biological parents.”
A tiktok video of two homeless people coming by to beg at a store, and the owner immediately shuts the door and locks it on them:
The video shows various comments, including, “Yeah, you gotta lock the door. I’ve been screwed like this before. They won’t let you just get away with a couple hundred.”
“He even got mad and kicked the door! It’s so scary!”
“Right? When I was pregnant, I ran into a deaf/mute person with a QR code begging me to transfer money to him, and he shoved me. He’s totally targeting pregnant women. It’s so scary.”
“I’ve met a beggar a couple of years ago, really tall, hiding a brick in his jacket. When I wouldn’t give him money, he showed me a corner of his brick, and I gave him some money right away.”
“I’ve met those types too. It really is scary. As soon as you say you don’t want to, they’ll immediately fall to their knees and glare at you really scarily.”
