01/05/24 - If an American describes a man as “morally upstanding”, it means that he’s only sleeping with his wife and his mistress.
Under the hashtag #Single Chinese men are flocking to Nepal to find wives, a blogger writes, “Good job! The biggest difference between China and Nepal is that China doesn’t have sexism, and Chinese men are hard-working and do all the housework. And Chinese men are never alcoholics or abusive! Young, pretty Nepalese women who don’t want any bride price welcome Chinese left-over men! I think our country should provide subsidies and support for people marrying to Nepal.”
The blogger also posts screenshots of a news site’s article on this, where a reporter says that only 10% of men looking for wives in Nepal are below 35-years-old. 40% are between 35 and 50 years old. And 50% of them are over 50-years-old. But almost all of them are looking for Nepalese women around 20 years old. There are videos on Chinese tiktok now of Nepalese women dancing in front of a camera, while captions appear on screen about her age, height, weight, family background, along with a big line of text at the top “NO BRIDE PRICE”. The reporter has also seen agents posting photos of Nepalese women on their social media platform, with a line that says, “Low on stock, first come first served.”
Comments say, “Nepal is poor, not blind.”
“We need professional organisations for this, to investigate and filter girls who live in economically behind regions of places that are within the reach of Chinese cultural influence, and lower the barrier of entry to girls who are marrying into China. We need a dedicated department for solving the problems these foreign wives might encounter in China. That way, the birth rate problem will go away, and it won’t cause more societal conflict.”
“I hope they bring their wives and kids back to China. Somebody’s gotta keep up with these social security payments.”
“I’m starting to understand why people want sons so much after they’re married. There’s a lot of reasons, but one of them is definitely that your marriage is more stable if you have a son.
I’ve encountered a lot of marriages, and I’ve discovered that divorced women who have custody usually have daughters—very few have sons.
First, if a couple only has one child and it’s a boy, then when they get divorced, the father is more likely to get custody. You might think of this as robbing the mother of the kid. But most of the time, the mom can read the situation too and make the choice that’s the best for herself and for her child.
But then, I started doubting my judgement. Is it possible that families with sons divorce less?
It’s already a more costly venture to raise a son—he has to have a house and he has to get married.
You might fight. You might cheat. But if you actually get a divorce, neither one of you can actually raise this son on your own. If the son went with the mother, he’d still have to come after his dad when it’s time to get a house. And the father has to think to himself, “If I’m not raising him, then he’s not gonna like me. So I’m gonna have to put up money and energy, and get nothing out of it? That’s a big loss.”
And if the dad gets custody? From what I know, most of the time, their son dedicate their time to beating off girlfriends and stepmoms.
So in the end, they just end up settling and continuing to live with each other.
If the couple has more than one child and they’re both sons, then you won’t ever find a more stable marriage. Imagine how rich this man would have to be for another woman to be willing to marry him. Most people divorce to marry a new, younger wife, not to be sad and alone by themselves.
If my judgement is right, then as China pushes for second and third children across the country, divorce rates will also fall.
China is different from the west in this way. The government doesn’t give you any help in raising your child. Every cent comes out of the parents’ pockets. If you can’t afford to raise them, then you can’t afford to raise them. That’s not going to change no matter how much you hate your wife.
As I thought of this, I got really sad. I guess family isn’t a place where logic applies—I mean, sure, love applies too, but mostly, it’s all about money.”
Comments say, “You’re overestimating men. Every woman I know with kids, whether it’s a son or a daughter, their dad never pays a cent in child support.”
“Divorced women who have custody of a son never manage to get remarried.”
“The reason women tend to get custody of girls is because the man’s family thinks a son is the continuation of their lineage. They’ll do anything to keep him. Everyone I know with both a son and a daughter who got divorced, the daughter goes with the mom and the son goes with the dad. And it’s still dangerous for women to get remarried with a daughter.”
“I’m not surprised that Trump never went to the Epstein island. Although Trump certainly had plenty of affairs while he was young, his tastes have always been very standard American straight white man tastes. A lot of people think that “conservatism” in American means a puritanical conservatism, but that’s not the case at all. Trump has very stereotypical old, conservative, white people tastes of beauty, and love blond-haired, tall, chesty women around 30 or so. For a white lefty in America, that’s plenty conservative.
A lot of Chinese people have a lot of misunderstandings about American concepts. Like, if an American describes a man as “morally upstanding”, it means that in any particular period of time, he’s only sleeping with his wife and a steady, long-term mistress. That’s morally upstanding. A white scumbag describes someone who doesn’t get married, and is dating a bunch of young women at the same time, like Hugh Hefner. But Hefner was just like Trump, into blond, chesty girls. He’s got old, conservative tastes too. Conservatism doesn’t mean morally upstanding. Morally upstanding doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a mistress.”
Comments say, “His personal life is so clean that you’d think he was a spy.”
“Maybe he just wasn’t important enough to get invited back in the day.”
“I don’t think Bush went either, right?”
A tiktok video of a drunken man who continually harassed a store owner who is eating her dinner, and accidentally knocks over her bowl of noodles. She jumps up and beats the shit out of him, causing head injuries. The man called the police and spent the night in the hospital.
Comments say, “You call this beating the shit out of someone?? Interesting.”
“He took her phone. That’s robbery.”
“He called the police on himself??”
“Surely, this counts as self defense, right?”
Yet another blogger covers the trending hashtag #Single Chinese men are finding wives in Nepal, saying, “Normally, they can’t shut the fuck up about how men oppress them. Then as soon as men stop oppressing them, they’re acting like this is worse than killing them.”
He shows a compilation of other people commenting under this hashtag: “How disgusting. They really love to go find wives in the poorest parts of the world.”
“This hashtag is so gross looking.”
“Fine, go. Don’t ever come back.”
Comments say, “Normally, you can’t shut the fuck up about keeping our bloodlines pure. Now you don’t care anymore?”
“They think you’re being an embarrassment. You think they’re jealous. Jesus Christ, dude.”
“So…you really can’t tell they’re making fun of you? This blog post is way funnier than any of the news. Hahahaha I hope all of these people stay in Nepal and never come back.”
“Why do we have different tests for each state’s college entrance exam? It all started with Jiangsu. Even as recently as 1994, the whole country used the same exam, and tested all the students at the same time. And back in the day, uni admittance scores in Beijing was 468/750, Tianjin’s was 508/750, and Jiangsu’s was 580/750. So how would taking the same exam even work? Wouldn’t that just bring shame to all the states with a low admittance score? And the funniest part is, even community college admittance scores in Jiangsu were 535/750. That means that if you only got into community college in Jiangsu, you can go to Beijing and go to one of the best universities, like maybe even an Ivy League.
So Jiangsu basically completely ended the whole country having the same exam. From that point on, every state has their own form of involution, has their own curriculum and their own strategies. After that try, China was never going to give everyone in the country the same exam.”
Comments say, “The college entrance exam has never been about your scores. It’s about the proportion of admittance quotas. And as for why different states have different admittance scores, it’s all to balance the political power between different states. If the whole country really used the same exam and the same admittance score, kids from poor areas will never get to go to college.”
“Every state has a quota on students they can send to college, so all the students within a state are fighting other students in their state. It has nothing to do with what exam you give them.”
“Back in 1994, you could go to community college and get a good job when you graduate. In 2024, once you have your Master’s Degree, you still won’t have half the opportunities that community college graduates in 94 did.”
A tiktok video of a man trying to get a cool video of snow flying up around him as someone skis by behind him. The first part is what it’s supposed to look like. The second part is how it actually turned out. The video taker says that the man in the video is fine, and the skier has been fired.
Comments say, “Beautiful. If you have a brain at all, you’d be able to see how dangerous this shit is. There’s countless collisions at ski resorts every year. Some of the more severe cases end up paralysed for life.”
“It’s not that different from walking down the middle of the highway.” [a real thing that people do all the time in China.]
“Fuck! I can just imagine how the ski resort manager is swearing up and down in his heart.”
“From the start of the 21st century, people have been emigrating. There were several waves. The rich people tend to run to the west. The poorer people tend to run to Russia or Africa.
A lot of the people who went to Africa went there on a government job. They were hiring a lot of agricultural specialists. I even remembering seeing ads for it myself.
Honestly, they were taking people who didn’t know anything about farming too, and just training them on the job. Nobody wanted to go at the time.
But now, looking back, it was the people who went to Africa who were the most successful. The ones who went to the west sold all their assets, and then those assets rose in value and they missed out.
As for the people who went to Russia, especially going to Siberia to find opportunity…you’ve never heard of them, right?
Yeah, that’s right.
Because land isn’t valuable in and of itself. And it’s not valuable now.
Even in America, where it’s warmer than Russia, with better infrastructure than Russia, better than Russia in every way, people still live off of subsidies. Without subsidies, American farmers can’t make it either. And even with subsidies, red necks are still the bottom of society.
That’s just how farming works.
It’s only ever just barely kept you alive.”
Comments say, “You should educate yourself about French agriculture. America isn’t the only country in the world that has an agriculture industry.”
“I went to Russia around October, and they really do have excellent land there. You can just fuck around and still grow a ton of stuff. But the commercial environment is too hostile. You’d get crushed.”
“How come you don’t mention all the people who went to Africa and then got sick and died?”
Under the hashtag #Vacationing in Harbin on a 180K budget, a blogger writes, “Lol. For 180K, you could just settle down in Harbin.
My personal experience is that everything in Harbin is really cheap, and the locals are all super friendly and enthusiastic. All the store owners are really polite and thoughtful.
If you own a store around here, you make about 3K-5K a month on average.
If you’re making over 8K a month, you’d be considered super successful (ignoring franchises and chains. I’m just talking small business owners).
And most store owners are really good people. It’s all low-budget ma and pa stores, low profit margins that rely on repeat business. They’d never fuck over their customers like anti-social psychos.
Well, that was before Harbin went viral. I don’t know if everyone will hold onto their integrity. We’ll have to wait and see on that.
I’m just trying to say, you don’t need 180K to go to Harbin.
Unless you want to settle down there. You could easily afford a house in the suburbs for that kind of money.
Like, with a big yard and everything.
Seriously.”
Comments say, “Tried to backpack through Harbin and failed at the first step: getting a plane ticket.”
“You can buy a house for just 180K? How much do houses cost there?” OP replies, “Not in the centre of town or anything, but definitely in the surrounding suburbs.”
“Bought some shredded potatoes for a couple of bucks, and I got given a plate bigger than the size of my head. It took me two days to get through it all. You guys are too honest.”
Any truth to that post about Harbin? Is it really that nice, to your knowledge?
What did they mean, it "went viral?" That everyone found out about it and started vacationing there?
I've been looking to go to Harbin sometime this decade, with a possibility of spending a few years there. That's actually why I started following your substack.
plain ticket -> plane ticket
