07/07/24 - Mrs. Xue had barely been to any classes and had already spent 1.46 million RMB.
Reporter learns from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography that a research team has discovered that tooth-rib erythrum has great adaptability in extreme environments, maybe even being capable of surviving on Mars. This research result was published in scientific journal Innovation, drawing the attention of the science world.
Tooth-rib erythrum is a type of desert moss, mostly growing in Xinjiang's Gurbantunggut Desert. It can absorb and make use of whatever limited moisture exists in the environment, and can even go into “hibernation” mode in the worst case scenario to preserve nutrition.
Researchers Zhang dayuan and Zhang Yuaming concentrated experiments on tooth-rib erythrum to record exactly how well it survives in extreme environments.
According to doctorate researcher Bai Wenwan's explanation, tooth-rib erythrum can survive having 98% of its cells dehydrated, being frozen at -198C, receiving over 5000Gy of gamma radiation, and has amazing regenerative properties.
More importantly, the research team modelled the conditions on Mars and discovered that this moss can survive and even reproduce there. “These characteristics makes it the ideal plant for eventually terraforming Mars.” Bai Wenwan said.
Bai Wenwan told reporters that many overseas scientists have expressed their approval of this experiment result, saying that it is remarkable. They've received many scientist's advice for where to go next in their experiment.
The research team says considering the tooth-rib erythrum's tolerance of extreme environments, they may perform space experiments, analyse its biological and molecular structure, and form a theoretical basis for eventually sending it to outer space.”
Comments say, “Are we already terraforming Mars?”
“So, we send the moss and cockroaches there first to form a rudimentary food chain?”
“Maybe we can wait on Mars fr now. If we can find a good strain of vegetation, our country has over three million square kilometres of desert. That's horrifyingly huge.”
“They're laying off entire departments at once now...
There's bad news every day. Just in the last 6 months, I've gotten two calls from headhunters, and every time they only have two offers, and one of them is my own company.
How could people not be stressed out? We'll all trying to calculate how much longer the money in the company accounts can last. Whether there's more or less people in the group chat. How many months until our contract runs out...
I'm someone who's normally super chill, kinda blunt, and very easily satisfied, and I'm getting anxious and nervous. I feel it. It took me half a year to find a job last year, and I don't know how long it's going to take for that PTSD to go away.
The only thing I can do now is just to do my job well, maintain my relationship with my boss, and try to camp here for another few years.”
Comments say, “We really need to do something about this employment problem.”
“I'm just doing everything I can to save up money and reduce how much I spend, to make sure that even if I'm laid off, I can survive until I die of old age.”
“I'm not married, no house, no car, and nobody wants me. Built a house in my hometown to collect rent on. I'm just working until I've paid into social security for 15 years, and then I'm retiring immediately.”
“How to tell if a company has a lot of overtime:
Go to the breakroom and look around. If they have motivational slogans and posters plastered everywhere, that's just an exploitative slave farm. Run as fast as you can.
If they have a lot of photos of their workers, some sort of experience wall, and HR promises free afternoon tea, team-building excursions, and all kinds of benefits, and really talks up the work environment, and everyone is laughing and having run, this type of company has the most overtime.
If the walls are completely empty, and the entire company looks really tired, and nobody talks to each other and only does their own work, then this company leaves work precisely on time.”
Comments say, “Haven't you ever been to a company with no benefits, everyone has no energy, they all do their own work, but there's still overtime all night?”
“Lol, I got some job interviews right after I graduated, and the first company was silent as death and everyone is working away, and the second one is filled with laughter, and I picked the second one right away T_T T_T”
“My ex-boss at a tiny company told me the first day of work to go home on time at the end of the day and don't waste his utility bills. When the weather's bad, he'll let us off early so we can get home before the downpour begins. Sometimes, if he's leaving work early, he'll tell everyone to go with him XD”
“I was just submitting my resume on Boss [job website]. If they respond to me after 7PM, it means they're working overtime. If they respond on the weekends, that means they only have one-day weekends.”
“Personal experience, run from the second type. Whether there's free afternoon tea or not, if they have a wall full of employee and client photos, run.”
55-year-old Mrs. Xue came to Nanjing's Lebao Fitness Gym wanting to exercise with swimming lessons. The workers there recommended she buy a 10K RMB fitness course. Soon after that, her coach began finding various reasons to make her buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of fitness classes every month. Mrs. Xue even transferred her coach 800K to supposedly buy 20% of stocks, becoming a stockholder of Lebao Fitness Gym. Mrs. Xue had barely been to any classes and had already spent 1.46 million RMB. She wanted a refund and could only sue for her money. There are a lot of other students with the same experience as Mrs. Xue, some even taking out high-interest loans.
Tianyan System search shows that Labao Fitness LLC is involved in over 27 lawsuits, most of which are contract disputes. In seven of the cases, they were ordered by the court to be put under limited spending and put into the bankrupt black list. This company was registered with a mere 30K in funds, which they never paid in. Even if the victims won the cases, these gym's legal representatives have no ability to pay back any debts. Lawyers explain that while these cases look like civil suits, what is happening here is already in the realm of crime. Lately, many members who have paid exorbitant fees have reported the case to the police, who are investigating relevant information.
Comments say, “Saved up for decades and finally got to retirement age, only to get all of it scammed away XD”
“When I retired, I don't know if I'll have even 60K on me...”
“She's another one of those that can't think as soon as she sees a muscular man.”
“An 80-year-old grandma cried because she has no money to fix her teeth.
This morning, a grandma came in and asked if I could fix her false teeth [she had fake teeth put in by some rando, people who have no license and is just scamming money]. At the time, I was super impatient, because I hate cases like these. If I fix someone else's work, that can get really complicated later on.
I asked her how much she spent on it, and she said 800 RMB. She only had 6 front teeth, and there's no point in fixing her false teeth, because her bite is all wrong. Her front teeth are like see-saws. So I told her these are unfixable.
I quoted her about 4000 RMB to put in all new false teeth, and she said she didn't have that much money. I told her to bring her kid in to pay for it, and the grandma told me, “Nah, I can't get any money from my kid. They have to build a house and get a wife. I'm already 80, and I have bad health. I don't even know if I'm going to live to the next year.” Her eyes got all wet, she wiped them, put her false teeth back in, and took her stuff and left.
I didn't know what to say as she left. All I can do seems to be making sure my old age isn't nearly so awful, and to not have any kids if I don't have money. Because life is hard. It's so hard.”
Comments say, “I just want to ask, when it comes to dentistry, is the materials really that expensive? Are the skills really that hard? Or do you guys just want that much profit? Teeth are the worst things to get hurt, because any random procedure is hundreds of RMB. How do I keep my teeth healthy until old age?”
“Have you guys noticed? Old people these days only want to trouble strangers and never want to ask for help from their kids. Do you still feel bad for them once you notice this?”
“You don't need that much money, though. If it's just a normal procedure, you could just charge her a couple hundred bucks and not make any profit from this case.”
Mr. Fu ordered an iced latte at a Luckin' Coffee in Hangzhou, and said he only got two or three sips out of it before it was gone. He looked, and 80% of the cup was filled with ice. Is this real? Reporters ordered three cups to see if it's true or not.”
Comments say, “All the people in the comments saying you can order it “less ice”, sure you can, but you might not know that if you're ordering at Luckin' for the first time that they assume you want your whole cup full of ice. And not everyone can remember to say “less ice” every time. And sometimes, baristas don't get your order right anyways. This is clearly a problem with the system, it's not the fault of the customers. Would they die if they put in a couple more options in their delivery app? It's not like it'd be hard to program.”
“According to some people, it seems to be shameful that sometimes consumers want a cup of coffee when they order a cup of coffee, and not just a cuple of sips of coffee. I guess Luckin' is no longer promoting how much cheaper and better they are than Starbucks, huh?”
“But less ice and no ice doesn't taste right. The mouth feel is all off.”
“Just learned my coworker has three sources of income.
The guy sitting next to me just graduated this year. He's getting a salary at our company, then works as a delivery driver from 6PM to 10PM, and he officiates weddings on the weekends.
I asked him which job pays the most, and he was like, “It's all about the same. I don't even know which one is my main source of income.”
Kids these days really are time management masters. I'm in awe.”
Comments say, “I guess I'm just lazy. I don't even want to move once I'm off of work.”
“First, you need to find a job that lets off at 6PM every day [doge]”
“It feels like everyone has a second job? Am I the only one that just lays flat at night? I want to find something to do, but I don't even know what I can do.”
A video of a 13 RMB beef offal meal in Guangdong. The plate includes noodles, cabbage, turnips, gluten, fish balls, sausage, pork lung, pork intestines, beef sirloin, beef intestine, burdock. And she pays a dollar extra to get a potato, and a dollar extra for an extra scoop of fish balls.
Comments say, “No way. This would be at least 30 RMB in Shenzhen.”
“I've never gotten anything this cheap in Guangdong.”
“Why don't we have such cheap and delicious food in small towns? T_T”
